Should our educational system include a life-skills lesson?

Education these days is mostly concentrating on academics and sports while life skills are equally important and should be a priority at schools. Life skills is a very wide subject to teach by books. But when taught as topics amongst the regular curriculum it can be easy to teach and understand the students. Here a few life skills lessons a school can teach:

  1. Positive thinking skills
  2. Awareness about addiction
  3. Sexual awareness
  4. Cognitive behavior
  5. Money management
  6. Violence prevention such as bullying etc.
  7. Safety measurements such as fire safety and water safety.

Talking about society and happenings around to the children at schools can help imbibe life skills in the young ones. There are many things, parents cannot teach at home and though they are not part of academics, the educational system should include a life skill lesson which can be helpful in shaping a good adult. Humanity and law should be in synchronization while teaching the young minds. Life skills can not only help defend themselves but also understand responsibilities in the right manner. When addiction is taught as a life skill the chances of getting drugged and indulging in gambling can be reduced and also help them have a better career. Educational prospects of concern towards the society make a good institution also. Teaching sex to younger minds is no guilt. As they grow, their body grows and so is the reproductive organ. Hence, sex education as a life skill can be a vital part of academics. This not only nurtures the young minds but also helps reduce unwanted incidences at school which may turn tragic as well as incur losses.

An all-rounder is made with education about academics, sports, life skills and management.
